The Dispute Settlement Center employs three full-time staff members, several contract personnel and boasts over 30 professionally trained volunteer mediators.

Her academic focus includes a Masters in Counseling (MS) as a
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) & National Certified Counselor.
Jan also has a background in education (BA). She has taught elementary
& middle school as well as being the Center's lead trainer. Jan leads the
Center's work in providing training in Mediation, Communication & Conflict
Resolution Skills. She also designs trainings & retreats to meet specific
needs of an organization. Other areas of interest include outdoor activities
of all sorts such as backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing/kayaking,
mountain biking & trail running. Jan also enjoys dabbling in home
renovation projects.
Christy Bridges: Youth Services Director,

Resolution teacher
Christy Bridges first became involved in mediation as a
peer mediator in high school in 1995. Her interest in
mediation led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in
Speech Communication with a concentration in Mediation
and Conflict Studies at James Madison University.
In 2002, Christy began working at the Dispute Settlement Center as the Youth
Mediation Services Director. Christy's current involvement with the Center
includes team teaching the Conflict Resolution Class at Balfour Education
Center and facilitating the Boys & Girls Skill Building Groups for the
Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
Christy is passionate about making a difference in the lives of youth and
teaching peace. Christy enjoys yoga, traveling and most of all, spending time
with her husband and daughter.

Jan has been a family mediator and meeting facilitator
for the Henderson County Dispute Settlement Center
since 1996. Jan took her first mediation training with
The Mediation Center in 1992 and volunteered there
until 1997.
Kate Dunnagan: Community Mediation Services Coordinator
Kate is excited to share her passion for peacemaking as the Dispute
Settlement Center’s coordinator of community mediation.
In 1999, Kate moved from Raleigh, NC to Asheville to attend UNCA.
Trained at the Mediation Center in Asheville, she volunteered as a
mediator for four (4) years and completed an internship as a research
assistant for the Governor’s Buncombe County Gang Violence
Prevention Project.
After graduating with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies and a concentration
in Conflict Resolution, Kate’s interest in peacemaking and social work
led her to work for the DSC’s youth mediation program in 2008. Kate has
also enjoyed working with children, adolescents and their families in
summer camps and after school programs.
Kate loves hiking with her dog, ceramic arts, chocolate, gardening, and
travel. As a student, she had the opportunity to participate in international
peace-building missions with youths in Northern Ireland and Bolivia.
